Visiting Launde Abbey
Please note that visitors to Launde Abbey from 1st August are advised to take note of our Keeping You Safe programme. Until UK Government guidance changes we are only able to welcome members of the public to use our walk-in cafe facilities. We recommend you call us to book a place before visiting. We look forward to being able to offer our usual welcome to visitors, described below, at some point in the future!
We’re open every day for guests wishing to pop in, so if you live locally you might like to come to Launde Abbey as a day guest. There are plenty of places around the Abbey and its grounds where visitors can relax and enjoy the time away from the busyness of life. We also have a Victorian kitchen garden to explore, where much of the produce used in our kitchen is grown.
If you are visiting a local attraction or perhaps one of the vibrant market towns of Oakham, Stamford or Uppingham why not make a visit to Launde Abbey as part of your day out, perhaps calling in for coffee, afternoon tea or even lunch? You’ll be assured of a very warm welcome.
For the enjoyment of all our visitors we have a tea room, a small licensed bar, and a little shop selling snacks, souvenirs and biscuits. There are also some great walks around the Abbey and maps are available from reception – just remember to bring your walking boots with you!
You are welcome to use one of our Chapels for private prayer or contemplation, or alternatively you are very welcome to join in one of the Community Services which take place throughout the day and include Contemplative Prayer, the Eucharist, Midday Prayer and Evening Prayer.
We are able to cater for a variety of diets, including vegetarians, and will be happy to talk to you about this before your visit.
We make every effort to meet the needs of all our guests, but our buildings and facilities do have certain limitations on account of their age. For those with limited mobility we have recently installed lift access to the Chapel, and we have level access to the main Abbey house, our tea room, and the Stables block. There is also a lift in the main house which gives access to our toilet facilities. Please discuss any particular needs with us before booking and we will endeavour to make your stay as easy for you as possible.
Children are always very welcome at Launde and there’s plenty of space to explore. We do ask that they be accompanied by an adult at all times (there are a few hazardous areas in the grounds such as our pond) and that they remain respectful of the silent areas in the house and gardens.
Well behaved dogs are permitted in the grounds of Launde Abbey but we do ask that they are kept on a lead at all times and you clear up after them.
