Living with Loss ***FULLY BOOKED***

HAVE YOU BEEN STRUGGLING SINCE THE DEATH OF YOUR LOVED ONE?

Come and join with others who have also experienced life-changing loss through bereavement. The aim of this supported retreat is to help you cope with your life-changing loss. Through a creative variety of activities, including led sessions, discussions and quiet reflection, we explore the journey of grief, with a focus on finding a way forward in the changed circumstances that are the result of bereavement. It includes a special time of candlelighting remembrance. This is a gentle retreat with a Christian perspective, sensitively led by Abi and John May, suitable for those who have lost a husband or wife, children or other close family members, or who have suffered multiple losses.

Abi May

Abi runs the ‘Living with Loss’ project, which is a member of the National Bereavement Alliance.  She is an experienced retreat leader, bereavement author and educator, as well as being a bereaved mother.  Her grief support retreats and training courses are held in locations throughout the UK as well as online.

Meeting God at thresholds and crossing places

In this retreat, we will explore places of encounter, places of change, places where change happens ‘whether I want it to or not.’  We will do this with creative prayer, poems, reflections and quiet.

There will also be an opportunity to do some creative stitching – possibly a landscape, or a traditional patchwork design, such as ‘Attic Windows’ or a piece of your own choosing.  Claire will bring some additional fabric and haberdashery with her.

    Revd Claire Goode

Revd Claire Goode was most recently a Chaplain at Launde Abbey.  She is an experienced parish priest and retreat leader who was most recently the Vicar of a city centre church in Nottingham. Claire was also one of the team offering Spiritual Direction (Spiritual Accompaniment) and Mentoring in Southwell & Nottingham Diocese.  She has been sewing ever since she can remember – she had her first sewing machine aged 9 years and has recently studied for a City and Guilds Patchwork and Quilting Certificate.

      Quiet Day: Extended Peace

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favours!” (Luke 2:14, NRSV).  These are the words with which Angels inspired the shepherds to go and seek the new born Messiah.  As we enter a new year, are you one of those people who will need to recuperate from the joyful exhaustion of the events of the Christmas?  We invite you to start your new year journey here at Launde and experience the peace of God that can sustain you, alongside all His chosen ones, without loosing focus of the one who has brought hope into the world.

      Alan and Lesley Humphrey

Alan Humphrey is an Anglican priest and Resident Chaplain at Launde.  He comes to Launde from parish ministry before working alongside Lesley at a new monastic community where they were warden and house manager respectively.  Their enthusiasm for sharing their love of God stems from experiences throughout their varied careers coupled with many years of serving on team at New Wine.

Quiet Day price: £44 includes lunch and coffee and tea throughout the day.
Why not think about extending your time at Launde by staying overnight after the event.  Check for availability and a quote when you contact us.

        Epiphany Retreat

At Christmas we declare Jesus to be the light that shines in the darkness.  But it is the stories of Jesus traditionally read through January, in the season of Epiphany, that start to unpack what that might look like. In this darkest season of the year, we will reflect on the Light revealed both in these stories and in our stories, and explore what God’s Spirit might be saying to each of us through them as 2023 begins.

Launde Abbey, Deputy Warden, Chris WebbThis retreat will be led by The Revd Chris Webb, Deputy Warden of Launde Abbey.

Chris is an Anglican priest and Benedictine new monastic community member. He has ministered as president of a spiritual formation ministry in the USA, as a parish priest in Wales and in a church for the homeless. He is the author of two books: The Fire of the Word (2011) and God-Soaked Life (2017).

Retreat price: £295 includes en-suite accommodation, all meals, and all retreat resources.
We offer an ‘Early Bird’ price of £275 if you pay in full before 6th November 2022.

          Push Out Even Deeper

A continuing conversation on pioneering and pastoring
          in the rural context.

In Luke 5 we read how Jesus invites some seasoned fishermen to do something out of the ordinary; to go beyond what they were used to and where they were used to doing it. They were encouraged to ‘push out into the deep’ and place their full reliance on Him.

Applying this metaphor to those called to pioneer and pastor in the rural context, we believe God is calling us to continue the conversation, pushing out even deeper. In facilitated discussions, prayer and through sharing of stories, come and learn what is working locally as well as regionally, and how we might support, resource, and encourage you where you are, and how you can link with other like-minded people.

The day begins at 10am and will run through to 4pm, including space to pray, feedback what the Holy Spirit is saying, and together identify next steps. This event is run in association with Rural Ministries.

Saturday Quiet Day: Beauty for Brokenness

“Beauty for Brokenness … Give us Compassion we Pray”

If the Word became flesh and blood, and “moved into the neighbourhood”, how then do we see our own bodies?  How do we relate to the bits we like? And the bits we don’t? A chance to think about our bodies, in both their brokenness and beauty, as “very good… wonderfully made”!

          Revd David Harknett

This Quiet Day will be led by The Revd David Harknett and assisted by his daughter Rose.

David has been given to Rose as a parent, carer, friend, explorer and annoyance.  Not expected to live because of sepsis in 2013, David has mild, chronic fatigue, but is able to swim, cycle and run.  He also oversees 6 small, rural villages outside Melton Mowbray.

          Rose Harknett at Launde

Rose has been given to David as a daughter, demand, friend, entertainer and irritant. During David’s sabbatical in 2022, his wife Vicky described Rose as his “greatest Mentor”. She is non-verbal and attends Birch Wood Special School.

Weather permitting, some of this day will take place outside in our outdoor worship space which is beyond the walled garden.  There will also be indoor options.

Saturday Quiet Day: That Autumn Feeling

              That Autumn Feeling.

It’s a time to be thankful for the gifts of summer and consider the direction of our life by encountering the gifts of autumn. The day will conclude with a Communion Service for Autumn.

This Quite Day will be led by John Rackley, a Baptist who works with Christchurch LEP, Leicester. He writes for the Bible Reading Fellowship and Wild Goose. He is exploring currently the relationship between our spirituality and the natural environment.

Saturday Quiet Day: Summertime, and the living is easy … or is it?

Summertime, and the living is easy … or is it?

Whether or not you holiday in August, many of our institutions take a break.  In thsi day, we will take the opportunity to relax in the presence of God and reflect on what it means to have some ‘down-time’ with God.
