Beauty – The First Word – 21 March

Beauty: The First Word – Sunday 21st March 2021

Welcome to the second day of our retreat, Beauty: The First Word with Chris Webb, Deputy Warden of Launde Abbey.

If you’ve not yet downloaded our Guide for online retreats you can find it here.

Take a few moments in silence as you begin your time of retreat today. Remind yourself that you spend today in the presence of God who loves you and seeks to draw you closer. Allow yourself to settle into stillness and silence within so that God’s voice can be heard.

You may want to begin the day by listening to our Praying Lent service for the day.

Or download the mp3 file so you can listen at another time
Or you may prefer the Church of England service of Morning Prayer here.

At the start of the day, watch Chris’s final reflection.

Ignore the bit at the beginning reaching out for donations!

The images described in the talk, and a number of others you may wish to use for reflection, can be found here.
Fernand Léger’s The Builders can be found here.
During this talk, Chris invites us to reflect on one final question:
1. What’s next?
You might also enjoy a video featuring a sculptor who is also priest from Leicester Diocese (and a friend of Launde) as he talks about his art – click here to watch. This video was produced by Canon Howard Barker, a retired priest and former teacher of Art History, who has a fascinating YouTube channel where he explores the relationship between art and spirituality – click here for more

During the morning, worship with the wider church.

You may want to worship in person at your local church (if possible), or join your local church online, or share in the Church of England national service for Sunday 21st March 2021.
