The Contemplative Heart

The Holy Spirit leads us to bring our restless and wayward hearts to the ever loving heart of God. We learn that being comes before doing, and that who I am before God is far more important than how much I am doing. When we find our peace and security in Jesus, we are enabled to obey his great commandments, and ‘to walk by the Spirit and not gratify the desires of the flesh’(Galatians 5:16). This will be a mostly silent retreat.

Ian Cowley is an Anglican priest who has served in parish ministry in South Africa and Sheffield, in Cambridge and in Peterborough. From 2008 to 2016 Ian was Coordinator of Spirituality and Vocations in the Diocese of Salisbury. He is author of five books on spirituality, discipleship and the local church, including Going Empty Handed, The Transformation Principle and The Contemplative Minister (BRF 2015). His most recent book is The Contemplative Response which was published by BRF in 2019. He has recently retired from full-time ministry and continues to write and teach.
