February Quiet Day: Preparing for Lent
7th February 2022, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
£36Perhaps William Temple’s most well known quote is, ‘When I pray, coincidences happen, and when I don’t, they don’t.’ He also wrote: ‘Most people think that behaviour matters, and prayer helps it. The truth is that prayer matters, and behaviour tests it’.
The season between the Presentation of Christ at the Temple and the beginning of Lent is a special time; it offers an invitation to prepare for Lent. Instead of suddenly finding that Lent has arrived and, in desperation, promising to make contrived sacrifices (such as giving up chocolate!), we take time on this quiet day to use prayer to properly prepare for a time of growth … spiritual and behavioural growth.
Alan Humphrey is an Anglican priest and resident Chaplain at Launde. He comes to Launde from parish ministry before working alongside Lesley at a new monastic community where they were warden and house manager respectively. Their enthusiasm for sharing their love of God stems from experiences throughout their varied careers coupled with many years of serving on team at New Wine.
