Introducing Claire Goode
A few weeks ago Launde Abbey appointed the Revd Claire Goode, Vicar in the Benefice of St Andrew, Nottingham in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham, as the new House for Duty Chaplain at Launde Abbey. The Bishop of Leicester announced the appointment publicly at the beginning of August, and we caught up with Claire shortly afterwards to ask her about her new role.
Hi Claire. We’re looking forward to having you as part of the clergy team here.
I am really looking forward to joining in with the ministry at Launde. If you had said to me when I first visited Launde Abbey 15 years ago, on a retreat as part of ministerial training, that I would join the clergy team I would not have believed you! God is always full of surprises.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I have had a varied ministerial journey – as rural multi-parish priest and as city centre incumbent. I have also had a diverse career before ordination as a photographic research technician, a buyer of military vehicle spares, marketing executive, a temporary secretary and a lecturer in further education.
I am married to Pete, who I met at Nottingham University over 40 years ago now. He is a Civil Engineer who works as Traffic Manager in Nottinghamshire and we have 4 adult children.
And you’ve already been leading retreats at Launde over recent years.
One of my passions in life is textiles: I love sewing, knitting and needlecrafts in general. Recently I gained my City and Guilds Certificate in Patchwork and Quilting and I have been developing textile-based retreats as a visiting leader at Launde for the past 4 years; and I am looking forward to doing more.
What are you keen to be involved with at Launde when you come?
Over my years in ministry I have been involved in Spiritual Accompaniment (Direction) for Southwell and Nottingham Diocese and I look forward to continuing that ministry at Launde. I have also done training in pastoral supervision and reflective practice, and family systems theory. I am looking forward to getting involved with some schools’ work at Launde and using my educational background and skills.
Well, welcome aboard – we look forward to your arrival later this year.
I am delighted to become part of the clergy team at Launde and part of God’s ministry in such a beautiful place.
