Deepening Discipleship Day: The Gift of Disability – The Implications and Applications for Parish Life
26th February 2020, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Led by Chris Barber, this is a day to deepen our understanding and experience of the spirituality and theology of disability. The day will seek to define disability and care-giving in relation to faith communities. How is inclusion worked out in the spiritual and liturgical life, as well as the social and practical life of a parish? What is the role of pastoral care leaders, ordained and lay?
Chris is a registered nurse for those with learning disabilities and has 30 years’ experience in this role. He serves on the editorial board of three nursing journals and has written two books and many articles, papers and conference presentations on a range of nursing and disability issues and on issues relating to disability spirituality and theology.
He has lectured on issues relating to disability and care giving within theological and ecclesiological contexts. Chris is an active member of the Royal College of Nursing and his local Catholic parish. Chris was diagnosed eleven years ago with high functioning autism/Asperger’s syndrome.
