William Shakespeare’s ‘King Lear’. The last of Shakespeare’s great tragedies, here we witness the terrible consequences of ‘hubris’: the elderly Lear’s belief in his own rightness and his actual total failure to read basic human nature. His tragedy is the failure of us all: an inability to really see what real love actually is, until it is too late.
